Eli Carter Earns All-MET Honors

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 26, 2012) - Rutgers freshman guard Eli Carter (Paterson, N.J.) was today named to the 2011-12 All-Met Men’s Basketball Third Team, as presented by the National Invitation Tournament and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. He was one just three freshmen cited on the All-Met squads.
Carter averaged a team-best 13.8 points-per-game, including 14.0 in the BIG EAST. He scored in double figures 25 times and averaged 16.6 points-per-contest against nationally-ranked teams. In conference games, he ranked fourth among all freshmen in scoring, third in three-point field goal percentage and fifth in steals.
Carter was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after a 31 point performance in 85-83 double overtime win over No. 10 Florida on Dec. 29 and was cited on BIG EAST Honor Roll after scoring 19 points in 67-60 win over No. 8 UConn on Jan. 7.
Rutgers, with seven freshmen on its roster, was the nation’s fifth-youngest team in 2011-12 according to a formula utilizing minutes played considering class status by StatSheet.com. Of the five youngest teams in the country (Boston College, St. John’s, Niagara, Nicholls State, Rutgers), the Scarlet Knights had the best winning percentage. 52.2 percent of the RU’s overall minutes (3386 of 6475) were played by freshmen and 55.4 percent of the team’s overall points (1161 of 2095) were scored by freshmen.
