Sep 12 | Field Hockey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 12, 2012) - The Rutgers field hockey team kicks off conference action this weekend as they head to No. 7 Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 15. RU will then head to New Haven, Conn., to take on nonconference foe Sacred Heart on Sunday, Sept. 16 for a neutral-site matchup.
The Huskies (5-0) are currently undefeated on the season with their most recent victories coming in a pair of 2-1 wins. The first defeat was over No. 15 Michigan and the second was over No. 21 Albany, who Rutgers (3-3) topped in the home opener, 3-2. Connecticut currently sits on the top of the division with Syracuse, who is also undefeated.
Sacred Heart (3-1) has dropped just one game on the season, which came in an 8-0 loss to UConn in their second game of the season. The Scarlet Knights have faced the Pioneers just once, and the lone matchup resulted in a 4-3 RU victory in 2009.
The Scarlet Knights most recently faced Maine and Bryant in a pair of weekend games in Orono, Maine. RU dropped the first matchup against Maine after a last-minute penalty stroke goal, which put the Black Bears up 2-1. The Scarlet Knights bounced back from the loss and grabbed their first shutout of the season in the next-day game against Bryant, topping the Bulldogs, 3-0.
To catch the action this weekend, Connecticut will provide live for the Saturday match on their website.
