Rutgers Volleyball Downs George Mason in Five Sets

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 15, 2012) - The Rutgers volleyball team improved to 5-0 in five-set matches, downing George Mason in its second contest of the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia West Penn Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights (13-1) picked up the victory with set scores of 25-23, 18-25, 18-25, 25-22 and 15-13.

Rutgers picked up its 11th-straight win and improved to 4-6 all-time against the Patriots (2-11). Freshman Alex Lassa (Eagle, Colo.) had a team-best 17 kills and tied her career-high of 13 digs for the fourth time this season. She now has four double-doubles this year, including two at the Penn Invitational.

Senior setter Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) distributed 55 assists, her fifth time over 50 this season, while also tying a career-best with 21 digs for her ninth double-double of the campaign. The last time she reached 21 digs was against Seton Hall on Oct. 15, 2010. She now has 600 assists this season.

Freshman Rachel Andreassian (Fredericksburg, Texas) set a career mark with seven kills, surpassing her previous high of six which she totaled twice this season. The Scarlet Knights amassed 87 digs in the contest, shattering their previous season-high of 78, which they recorded twice.

Rutgers closes out the tournament against host Penn at 5 p.m. and can take first place with a win.
