Rutgers Women's Basketball Picked Fourth in AAC Preseason Poll

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (October 14, 2013) - The Rutgers women's basketball team was picked fourth in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Preseason Poll it was announced at the conference's media day at Mohegan Sun.
Defending National Champion UConn was chosen as the unanimous favorite to win the AAC regular-season title, while Louisville, last year's national runner-up, was chosen to finish second in the voting. The selection was made by the league's 10 head coaches, who were not permitted to select their own teams.
Rutgers, picked to finish fourth in the league, finished the 2012-13 campaign at 16-14 overall and welcomes eight returning letterwinners along with the nation's top incoming point guard. Junior guard/forward Betnijah Laney (Clayton, Del.), who was named Honorable Mention Preseason All-AAC, returns as the Scarlet Knights' top scorer and leader on the glass at 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, along with BIG EAST All-Freshman Team member sophomore Kahleah Coppe (Philadelphia, Pa.), who averaged 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in her first season at RU. Also suiting up for the Scarlet Knights will be freshman Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.), the two-time Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and ninth overall rated recruit by ESPN Hoopgurlz. Scaife was named the Preseason Freshman of the Year by the league's head coaches.
