PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 7, 2013) - Rutgers women's soccer associate head coach Mike O'Neill was named the Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the organization announced Friday.
O'Neill, in his 14th season "On the Banks" with head coach Glenn Crooks, helped guide the squad to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament at-large appearance and first conference final since the 2006 BIG EAST Championships.
The Scarlet Knights (13-5-4, 5-3-1) matched their win total from last season while not allowing a goal in the final 360:99 minutes action to close 2013. RU fell to No. 12/9 West Virginia, 3-0, in a penalty kick shootout after playing the Mountaineers to a scoreless tie in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
In its previous game, RU played No. 17 UCF to a scoreless tie in the American Athletic Conference Championship game. After a hard fought match, the Scarlet Knights eventually fell, 8-7, in nine rounds of penalty kicks.
