Box Score

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 15, 2013) - The Rutgers softball team dropped its season opener against Boise State, 3-1, Friday morning in Game One of the UTSA Classic, held in San Antonio, Texas. Sophomore lefthander Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) gave up four hits in six innings of work for the Scarlet Knights, while also recording four strikeouts.

Junior outfielder Loren Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) led RU from the plate with a 2-2 day and scored the team's only run. The Crenshaw product is on a six-game hitting streak dating back to last season.

RU got on the board in the first inning of play after Williams led off the game with a single and sophomore Chandler Howard (Wilmington, Del.) followed her up with a double to right center. Sophomore outfielder Jackie Bates (Lincroft, N.J.) then reached on an error, allowing Williams to come home for a 1-0 lead.

The Scarlet Knights held onto the lead until the third inning, when Boise State's Devon Bridges sent a three-run home run to left center, giving the Broncos a 3-1 edge. From there, Boise State's pitching combo of Rebecca Patton and Lela Work did not allow an RU hit in the final four innings of play.

RU's second contest of the day against Iowa State is slated for 12:30 p.m. The Scarlet Knights are 1-1 all-time against the Cyclones.
