
2014 Rutgers Football Schedule Released

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 16, 2013) – The Big Ten office announced the conference schedule for the 2014 football season today, as approved by the Big Ten Directors of Athletics. The 2014 schedule will consist of eight games for each of the Big Ten’s 14 teams, feature a new division alignment, include the conference debut of Maryland and Rutgers and culminate with the fourth annual Big Ten Football Championship Game.
The Scarlet Knights have six home games, including conference foes Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana at High Point Solutions Stadium.
The 2014 season opens the weekend of August 30 against an opponent to be determined. The 2014 home schedule begins Saturday, September 6 against Howard in Piscataway.
The first Big Ten game of 2014 marks Rutgers’ first game in its new conference as the Scarlet Knights host long-time Eastern rival Penn State on Saturday, September 13. It marks the first meeting against the Nittany Lions since 1995.
Games at Navy (September 20) and home versus Tulane (September 27) round out the non-conference schedule.
Rutgers hosts Michigan on Saturday, October 4 at High Point Solutions Stadium before consecutive Big Ten road contests at Ohio State (October 18) and at Nebraska (October 25).
The Scarlet Knights close out the home portion of the 2014 schedule against Wisconsin (November 1) and Indiana (November 15).
Back-to-back road trips toMichigan State (November 22) and Maryland (November 29) finish the 2014 regular season schedule.
Beginning in 2014, the Big Ten football division alignments will feature Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers in the East Division andIllinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin in the West Division. Each school will play the other six schools in its division plus two teams from the other division in 2014 and 2015, which will serve as transitional years in which the schools will still be playing eight-game schedules. Beginning in 2016, each school will play three teams from the other division as part of its nine-game schedule. The cross-division games will include one protected matchup on an annual basis between Indiana and Purdue.
