GREENBURGH, N.Y. - Rutgers is in fourth place with a 325 total after the first round of the third annual St. John's Women's Intercollegiate, played Monday at The Saint Andrew's Golf Club. The Scarlet Knights battled 17 mile-per-hour winds on day one at America's oldest golf course, with gusts ranging from 20 to 30 miles-per-hour.
Junior Racquel Zurick paced RU through the initial 18 holes, carding a 79 on the par 71, 5,801-yard course to enter Tuesday tied for 13th in the 68-player field. She was even in par five scoring.
Sophomore Taylor Clark is also among the top 20 competitors. She shot an 80 and is tied for 16th. Clark was plus one in par four scoring and had 10 pars on day one.
Junior Gabrielle Sacheli and freshmen Tatum Jackson and Emily Mills comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Sacheli is tied for 21st with an 81, Jackson is tied for 29th with an 85 and Mills is 57th with a 92. Jackson was one of three competitors to card an eagle on Monday.
Long Island leads the 12-team event with a 310, one stroke ahead of second place Seton Hall.
The Scarlet Knights, led by first-year coach Kari Williams, conclude the tournament with an additional 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
