Nov 10 | Women's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, N.J (Nov. 10, 2014) - The Rutgers women's soccer team will open the 2014 NCAA Tournament with La Salle at home this Friday at 7 p.m.
The full NCAA Tournament bracket can be found here.
The Scarlet Knights (12-5-1, 8-4-1 Big Ten) have now qualified for the NCAA Tournament five times in the last seven seasons and will host their first NCAA tourney contest since 2008.
The squad has posted double-digit wins in 20 of 31 seasons in program history, and will finish above .500 for the 24th time in that span.
"We're excited. We're excited for the players, for our seniors, for our staff and for the University," said head coach Mike O'Neill. "Consistency is everything. These last three years have been the most successful three years consistently in our program, so to be rewarded for hard work and quality from day one is pretty special.
"To be able to host a game was very important to us. We wanted to be in the NCAAs and we wanted to get the opportunity to host a game in front of our friends and family. We're excited about that."
Rutgers will take on La Salle (14-5-2, 8-0-0 Atlantic 10) for the first time since the 2001 season. All-time against the Explorers, Rutgers is 7-0-1 and has outscored the opposition, 30-2.
