? Senior forward Betnijah Laney has had two straight double-doubles to start off the 2014-15 campaign. She poured in 14 points and 13 rebounds against the Huskies on Tuesday. It was Laney's 17th double-double of her career.
? Redshirt junior guard Briyona Canty also had a double-double with 12 points and a new career-high 10 assists.
? Rutgers returns all 10 letterwinners and its five starters from its WNIT Championship run. The squad also adds two freshmen and two JUCO transfers.
? The Scarlet Knights enter their first season of Big Ten play. The Big Ten had 11 of the current 14 members reach postseason play.
ABOUT LSU
Sophomore guard Raigyne Moncrief leads the Tigers at 11.3 points and 7.3 assists per game. Junior guard Akilah Bethel is second on the stat sheet at 8.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and is followed by freshman forward Ann Jones at 6.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Former Tennessee standout Nikki Caldwell is in her fourth season at the helm of the LSU program.
SUE GUNTER CLASSIC
With LSU flirting with a double-double lead with 12 minutes left in the game, Rutgers made its first rally of the second half. The Scarlet Knights trailed, 35-44, but proceeded to use a 12-4 run to cut its deficit down to one. Kahleah Copper scored eight of RU's 12 points during the run as the Scarlet Knights were behind only 48-47 with 7:19 on the clock.
After a pair of free throws by the Tigers' Raigyne Moncrief had LSU leading, 64-54, with just over 1:30 left, Rutgers made another run. Rutgers outscored LSU, 9-4, in the span of 1:15 to pull within three. Moncrief sunk another two attempts from the line to put her team ahead, 68-61, but on the ensuing possession, Copper collected her own rebound off a missed layup to put the ball up and in, cutting down the RU deficit to five, 68-63, with 34 seconds remaining.
Copper gave possession right back to the Scarlet Knights on a steal, resulting in Syessence Davis going to the line. Davis sunk both free throws as RU trailed just 68-65 with 24 seconds left.
The Scarlet Knights quickly stopped the clock with a foul, sending Moncrief to the line once more. Moncrief headed to the line having gone 14-of-16 from the stripe, but missed both attempts. Off the second miss, the ball went out-of-bounds on the baseline with Rutgers having a shot at tying the game with 23 seconds left in the game.
LSU's Moncrief hit one-of-two from the line for the game's final 69-65 margin.
RU had three in double figures led by Copper's 16 points. Canty finished the game with 13 points while Betnijah Laney returned to the starting line-up for 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
LSU was led by Moncrief's 27 points, including 15 points from the free throw line. Theresa Plaisance added in 16 and Shanece McKinney poured in 10 from off the bench in the win.
ACTIVE WIN STREAKS:
With her 23 points against the Hawks, Scaife had her eighth 20+ point game of her career and 29th double digit scoring effort. Scaife shot 9-of-13 from the floor, including a perfect 6-of-6 in the second half, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
Scaife has led the Scarlet Knights in scoring in four-straight games, dating back to last year's WNIT run.
FROM SIXTH WOMAN TO STARTING LINEUP
Canty captured her second career double-double with 12 points and a new career-high 10 assists in the win over Northeastern on Tuesday night. It was the second straight game the redshirt junior guard had reset her career mark in assists. She performed her first double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in RU's WNIT semifinal win at USF.
The redshirt junior guard also captured 16 points in the Scarlet Knights' American Athletic Conference semifinal appearance against eventual national champion, UConn.
DOUBLE DISHING
BETTING DOUBLE
She registered the first double-double performance of the year with 10 points and 13 rebounds in the Friday night win over St. Joseph's and followed with 14 points and 13 boards in the victory over Northeastern.
Laney currently has 17 double-doubles in her career.
The Clayton, Delaware native captured 15 double-doubles last season, the most double figure scoring and rebounding games since Kia Vaughn, currently with the WNBA's Washington Mystics, had 12 double-doubles during the 2006-07 season.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Betnijah Laney and Briyona Canty are the first Scarlet Knight duo since Rachel Hollivay (26 pts, 13 reb.) and Kahleah Copper (23 pts, 13 reb) against Howard on Nov. 22, 2013 to have two double-doubles in a game.
BLOCK PARTY
She currently has 155 career blocks and needs 23 more blocks to move into fifth all-time on RU's career blocked shots list.
Hollivay ended last year with 127 rejections and is third (men or women) in blocks in a single season. Only Hamady Ndiaye (2009-10) and Roy Hinson (1982-83) on the men's side have blocked more shots in a single season, swatting away 145 and 144, respectively.
LIVING IN THE PAINT
RU poured in 34 points inside against St. Joseph's in the season opener and had 36 points versus Northeastern on Tuesday night.
RU scored 30 or more points in the paint in 27 of its 37 games last season. Rutgers registered 40 or more points inside seven times during the 2013-14 campaign, including a season-high of 52 against Wagner (Dec. 13) and UCF (Feb. 15).

TURNOVERS
On Tuesday against Northeastern, RU forced 22 turnover resulting in 23 points for the Scarlet Knights.
RU forced the opposition into at least 20 or more turnovers 15 times in 37 games a year ago.
Conversely, the Scarlet Knights committed fewer than 20 turnovers in 30 games, fewer than 15 miscues in 22 games and less than 10 three times.

LSU enters Saturday's contest at 2-2 as the Tigers are coming off a 51-45 loss against Tulane. The Tigers open up the 2014-15 season with five straight home contests and host Rutgers in the Sue Gunter Classic, in honor of the late LSU Hall of Fame coach.

SUE GUNTER CLASSIC
Sue Gunter, a 2005 Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer, was the LSU head coach from 1982-2004. She became the third women's coach in history to reach 700 career victories as she finished with 708 wins. She won 442 games in 22 seasons at LSU, guiding the Lady Tigers to 14 NCAA Tournament appearances, one NCAA Final Four, four NCAA Elite Eight appearances and two SEC Tournament title. She passed away in 2005.
LAST TIME VS. LSU
The Rutgers women's basketball team opened up the Barclays Women's Basketball Invitational on Nov. 29, 2013 falling just short of a Top 25 win with a 69-65 loss to No. 15/17 LSU.
RU rallied from as many as 10 down with 1:38 left to pull within three in the closing moments.
