MBB falls to Seton Hall

NEWARK, N.J. (Dec. 6, 2014) - In the 66th meeting between Rutgers (4-4) and Seton Hall (7-0), Myles Mack and Mike Williams each scored 15 points, but it was not enough as the Scarlet Knights fell 81-54 to the Pirates in the "Garden State Hardwood Classic." SHU benefitted from a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers to earn the victory.

Rutgers came out of the gate strong, scoring on its first two possessions and opening with a 6-2 lead. From there, two large Seton Hall runs put RU behind. The Pirates responded to the opening push by the Scarlet Knights with a 13-2 run, putting them ahead 15-8.

Rutgers answered with two quick buckets to cut into the deficit, before the Pirates came back with another big run. This time it was an 18-2 stretch for Seton Hall, putting them in front 33-14.

Heading into halftime, Seton Hall held a 47-25 advantage. The Pirates used hot shooting in the first half, shooting 60.6% from the field and led by 17 first-half points from Isaiah Whitehead.

Rutgers came out of the halftime locker room hot, looking to cut into the Pirates deficit. Williams scored the first bucket, and then Myles Mack knocked down back-to-back three-pointers for a quick 8-0 Rutgers run. However, Seton Hall again would counter, responding with a 13-0 burst for a 60-35 lead to ensure the victory.

Seton Hall held a slim 43-42 rebounding advantage. The Pirates shot 29-of-60 from the field (48.3%) while Rutgers shot 20-of-66 (30.3%).

After four consecutive games on the road, Rutgers returns home to the RAC on Tuesday to host New Hampshire. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on BTN.

Postgame Notes
· Williams set career highs with 15 points and four steals.
· Myles Mack scored in double digits for the sixth time this year and the 69th time in his career.
· With three steals Mack took sole possession of third place on Rutgers' all-time list. He now has 181 steals for his career.
· Kadeem Jack had six points and a season-high nine rebounds. He led the team in rebounding for the 30th time in his career.
· Rutgers tied a season-high with nine steals.
· Shaquille Doors had a career-high six points and eight rebounds.
· Rutgers' starting lineup was guard Myles Mack, guard Mike Williams, forward Junior Etou, forward Kadeem Jack, and center Greg Lewis for the third consecutive game.
