RU'S LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers enters the match in search of capturing a victory in Big Ten play. Most recently, RU hosted two ranked opponents in No. 16 Wisconsin and No. 11 Minnesota, ending the weekend on a high note against the Gophers. The Scarlet Knights found strength in defense and a surge of team chemistry to rally the Gophers wire-to-wire in the second and third sets, however, their efforts fell short as Minnesota claimed the match by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-18.
Sophomore outside Meme Fletcher (Overland Park, Kan.) boasts an average of 3.94 kills per set to lead the squad, ranking fifth amongst all Big Ten hitters. Junior middle Lauren Cloyd (Champaign, Ill.) follows with 2.36 kills per stanza, totaling 139 kills on the season.
On the defensive side, senior Eden Frazier leads the stat sheet with 0.90 blocks per set, registering a total of 45 blocks for the Scarlet Knights. Seniors Ali Schoreter (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Ronnie Komisarek (San Manteo, Calif.) split the role at libero, averaging 3.40 and 2.90 digs per set, respectively.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
Michigan split its road matches in its last week out, topping Iowa with a five-set victory on Wednesday before falling to No. 4 Nebraska in four sets on Saturday. The Hawkeyes took the first two frames from the Wolverines, but Michigan rallied in the following three sets to claim the win. After dropping the first two sets to the Cornhuskers, the Wolverines captured a 25-20 victory in the third frame, but Nebraska sealed the win in the fourth.
Abby Cole paces the pack with 2.92 kills per set and 1.20 blocks per frame. Her blocking average ranks eighth in the conference. Caroline Knap follows with 2.72 kills per stanza, along with 2.98 digs per set. Carly Warner adds in the most assists for Michigan for a total of 451 on the year. Head coach Mark Rosen is in his 17th season at the helm of the program.
SERIES VERSUS THE WOLVERINES
The Scarlet Knights and the Wolverines met for the first time on Oct. 17, 2014 as conference foes. Michigan edged Rutgers to take the match in three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-21 at the College Ave Gym. In the match, RU was led by Fletcher with seven kills and seven digs, while Schroeter added a team-high 10 digs.
