RU Sixth After Day One of Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Scarlet Knights are tied for sixth with a 631 (325-306) total after the opening two rounds of the annual Rutgers Invitational, played Friday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Freshman Astrid Aneman (Stockholm Sweden) paced RU on day one, carding a 153 (76-77) to enter Saturday's final round tied for ninth in the 58-player field.
Delaware leads the 10-team event with a 606 (302-304) on the par 72, 6,041-yard course, 10 strokes ahead of second place Brown (310-306=616). James Madison is in third place with 620. Individually, Delaware's Andrea Slane is atop the leaderboard with a 149 (75-74).
Rutgers improved 19 strokes during it second round performance, as senior Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) and sophomore co-captain Emily Mills (Colts Neck, N.J.) shot 72 and 74, respectively to boost the home squad. Both are tied for 17th with 156 totals. Mills had four birdies on Friday to supplement Aneman, who had a tournament-best 26 pars.
Senior Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) and sophomore Tatum Jackson (Mountain Brook, Ala.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Paulsen is tied for 45th with a 166 (83-83) and Jackson is 53rd with a 170 (85-85).
Rutgers has both Scarlet and White squads competing, and White enters the final 18 holes in eighth position with a 638 (325-313). Jacquelyn Mullens (Brookside, N.J.) performed well, carding a 156 (81-75) and is tied for 17th. She is joined by fellow seniors Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.), Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) and Maddy Gedeon (Roseville, Calif.). Zurick is tied for 21st with a 157 (78-79), Moyal is tied for 27th with a 160 (82-78) and Gedeon is tied for 41st with a 165 (84-81).
The third and final round of the 54-hole Invitational tees-off Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Results will be available here at the round's conclusion.
Awards will be given to the winner and the runner-up for the team and individual competition. If there is a tie for the team championship, it will be decided by the fifth player's score from the final round. If a tie still exists, the fifth player's total score from all three rounds will be used.
Ties for individual medalist will be decided by a scorecard playoff using the final round, beginning on the 18th hole and moving backwards. Ties for runner-up will be determined by a scorecard playoff using the same format.
