Men's Golf Fifth After Day One of Maryland Invitational

ROCKVILLE, Md. - At the end of day one, the Rutgers men's golf team is currently tied for sixth with an eight-over-par 296 scorecard in the Maryland Invitational hosted at the Woodmont Country Club's North Course, a par-72 venue.
Originally scheduled for back-to-back rounds during the first day, Monday's action was shortened to one round due to frost. Round two will start tomorrow morning, while the originally scheduled third round will no longer be played.
Host Maryland is currently first in the field with a four-over-par 292. James Madison and Ohio are tied for second with six-over-par 294 totals. Loyola (Md.) holds the fourth position with a seven-over-par 295, followed by the Scarlet Knights.
Sophomore Toks Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria) is currently tied for second with a two-under-par 70 to lead RU. Pedro finished tied for first in birdie scoring with six to highlight his impressive start.
Classmate Matt Holuta (Indiana, Pa.) also enjoyed a successful first day, completing the round tied for seventh with an even scorecard of 72. Holuta concluded the day with four-straight birdies to finish just four strokes behind the leader.
Senior Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) and sophomore Jack Panagos (Hillsborough, N.J.) each produced a five-over-par 77 to complete round one tied for 33rd, while junior Chase Wheatley (Corona del Mar, Calif.) ended the day tied for 56th with an 81.
Freshman Matthew Mourin (Weston, Fla.) competed as an individual for Rutgers, registering a seven-over-par 79 to put him tied for 46th in the field.
The second a final round of the Maryland Invitational will commence tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
