Volleyball Set for Trip to Maryland

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Oct. 23, 2015) - Coming off an historic win over Maryland this past Wednesday, the Rutgers volleyball team looks to repeat the feat with a trip to College Park, Md. for a rematch with the Terps on Saturday, Oct. 24. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.

RU'S LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers secured its first Big Ten victory with a win over Maryland in a five-set thriller. The Scarlet Knights started off slow in set one, but never let up to claim the first, 25-23. The Terps then evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 victory in the second, but RU recovered with a dominant performance in the third to register a 25-19 win.
Once again UMD tied the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth to push the match to the deciding fifth set. Although the Scarlet Knights fell behind, 7-2, at the start of the stanza, Rutgers redeemed its energy from the earlier sets to rally to a 15-12 win, sealing the match victory to make history at the College Ave. Gym.
Sophomore Meme Fletcher (Overland Park, Kan.) registered her sixth double-double of the year with a match-high 25 kills and 10 digs to lead the team. Fletcher ranks fourth in the conference with 3.95 kills per set.
The duo of seniors Eden Frazier (Irvine, Calif.) and Anna Sudbury (Tomhawk, Wisc.) paced the team at the front of the net with seven blocks apiece. Sudbury also posted a match-high in service aces (5) and a team-high in assists (49), ranking 12th in the conference with 8.80 assists per set. Senior libero Ronnie Komisarek (San Manteo, Calif.) posted a career-high 22 digs in the win.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
In Wednesday's match, Maryland was led by Adreene Elliot with 23 kills, along with four digs and one solo block. Liz Twilley followed with 21 kills, averaging a .314 hitting percentage in the match. Hailey Murray rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 kills of her own.
Aiding the UMD scorers, Whitney Craigo added a match-high 54 assists and currently ranks 13th in the conference with 8.24 assists. On the defensive side, Kelsey Wicinski notched a match-high 26 digs for the Terps, while Murray added in a team-best seven blocks.
SERIES VS. THE TERPS
With the win, Rutgers extended its all-time series lead to 14-7 over Maryland. The Scarlet Knights also snapped a five-game losing streak against the Terps, adding its first victory over UMD since 1983. As conference foes, RU trails in the series 2-1.
