BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Rutgers volleyball came out strong at Indiana Saturday night, but after dropping the first set the Hoosiers rallied to defeat the Scarlet Knights in four sets at University Gym. RU opened with a 25-21 win in the opening stanza, but Indiana bounced back, 26-24, 25-20, 25-19, for the victory.
Rutgers drops to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in Big Ten Conference action. Indiana's win improves the Hoosiers to 12-4 overall and 2-2 against league competition.
Sophomore outside Meme Fletcher (Overland Park, Kan.) paced the Scarlet Knights with a match-high 13 kills. It was the second consecutive match that Fletcher led all players in the kills column. Senior setter Anna Sudbury (Tomahawk, Wis.) registered 35 assists to lead RU, while senior Eden Frazier (Irvine, Calif.) notched a match- and career-high nine blocks.
Outside hitter Amelia Anderson and middle blocker Awele Nwaeze led Indiana with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, with setter Megan Tallman registering a match-high 48 assists. Courtney Harnish led all players with 19 digs.
Rutgers got hot midway through the opening set to take the lead, 16-15, after an Indiana attack error. From there the Scarlet Knights never looked back, jumping up to a 24-19 advantage before Frazier notched the kill on set point.
RU carried its momentum into the second set and built a commanding 18-12 lead. But the Hoosiers turned up the pressure and battled back to tie things, 24-24, scoring the set win on a kill by Tallman. Indiana shut the door over the next two sets, as Anderson posted eight of her team-high 12 kills in that span.
The Scarlet Knights are in action next on Friday, Oct. 9 at the College Ave. Gym against No. 19 Wisconsin. The match begins at 7 p.m. and will stream live on BTN Plus.

- Meme Fletcher paced the Scarlet Knights in the kills column for the 11th time on the season with 13 kills in the match.
- Eden Frazier recorded a career-high nine blocks, as RU bested Indiana, 15-10, in the category.
