PRINCETON, N.J. - Rutgers women's golf is in third place with a 315 total after the opening round of the Princeton Invitational, played Saturday in wet and windy conditions at Springdale Golf Club. Seniors Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, both carding 78 to enter Sunday's final round tied for 13th in the 79-player field.
The 15-team event was originally slated for 54 holes, but was shortened to 36 due to poor weather conditions.
Sophomore Emily Mills (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Tatum Jackson (Mountain Brook, Ala.) also persevered despite the challenging climate and are among the top 25 competitors. Mills is tied for 20th with a 79 and Jackson tied for 24th with an 80.
Senior co-captain Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) rounded-out the team scorecard on the par 72, 6,100-yard course with an 86 and is tied for 64th.
Host Princeton is atop the team standings with a 306, six strokes ahead of second place Columbia (312) and nine shots better than the Scarlet Knights. Harvard and Yale are tied for fourth at 318 in the field, which is comprised of Northeast teams.
Tiger Tenley Shield is tied with Dartmouth's Isabel Kane for medalist honors through 18 holes with a plus-two 74, leading by one shot over Columbia's Monica Chen and Yale's Sandy Wongwaiwate.
