Men's X/C Finishes Third at Metropolitan Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's cross country team placed third at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Friday, registering a time of 2:16.32 to collect 89 points. It marked the best finish for the team in six tries for the Scarlet Knights.
"We ran tough and competitive today," said head coach Mike Mulqueen. "It was our best team finish in this race in six years, so I was proud of how they competed."
Host Fordham earned the team title, producing a first-place time of 2:13.52. New York University completed the race in second with a time 2:16.04, while Manhattan (2:17.10) and Columbia (2:17.16) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
RU was led by sophomore Trent Brinkofski (Somerset, N.J.), who completed the race in seventh with a time of 26:54.7. Senior Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.) just missed joining Brinkofski in the top-10, finishing 11th with a mark of 27:02.8.
Freshman Conor Murphy (Millstone, N.J.) registered a 15th-place finish with a time of 27:11.1, while classmate Dominick Munson (Erial, N.J.) placed 26th at 27:39.3. Sophomore Luke Wiley (Williamstown, N.J.) collected a time of 27:43.6 to cross the line in 32nd place.
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when the Scarlet Knights compete in the Princeton Invitational at the West Windsor Fields in Princeton, N.J.
