Taintor Named to TDS Team of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Senior midfielder Mitchell Taintor (Storrs, Conn.) was named to TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Taintor netted both goals in RU's 2-0 Big Ten Tournament victory over Northwestern to advance the fourth seeded Scarlet Knights to the tournament's semifinal showdown with top seeded Ohio State on Friday afternoon.
Taintor put away his first goal of in the game's 23rd minute as senior defender Mitch Lurie (Atlanta, Ga.) served a free kick to the far side of the box, where it was punched out Northwestern keeper Zak Allen. Taintor, however, quickly took control of the loose ball to find the back of the Wildcat net.
The RU senior midfielder then added an insurance tally on his fifth goal of the season in the 85th minute of action. From along the right sideline, Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Jason Wright (Kingston, Jamaica) sent a pass to the opposite side, to the top of the 18, to sophomore midfielder Brandon Tetro (Freehold, N.J.). Tetro slid the ball to his left to an oncoming Taintor, who fired away from six yards out at the left post into the opposite corner.
For Taintor, a Second Team All-Big Ten selection, it was his second game-winner of the 2015 campaign and fifth of his career. He currently has 14 points (5G, 4A) and 31 points (13G, 5A) in his career.
The Rutgers men's soccer team returns to the field on Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals at 1 p.m. on BTN.
