Doorson Sidelined Indefinitely, Sanders to Miss Opener

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers University Head Coach Eddie Jordan announced today sophomore center Shaquille Doorson (Amsterdam, Netherlands) will be sidelined indefinitely due to a left foot injury and freshman guard Corey Sanders (Lakeland, Fla.) will not play in the season-opener on Nov. 13 versus Rutgers-Newark. Sanders will not compete due to a one-game, self-imposed penalty enacted by Rutgers and accepted by the NCAA as a result of his participation in a non-sanctioned basketball event this past summer.
"We want to ensure that Shaquille returns to the floor in optimum health," said Jordan. "He will remain engaged in every aspect of the program."
"Corey loves the game and never passes up the opportunity to play," continued Jordan. "He competed when he shouldn't have, however, and we accept the penalty. We look forward to having him on the floor versus Howard on Nov. 15."
Doorson, who suffered the injury during practice, competed in 29 games as a freshman last season, averaging 1.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.3 minutes-per-game.
Sanders will continue to practice and participate in team activities. Rutgers will have no further comment in regards to his one game penalty.
