WRES in the Rankings – Week Two

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers wrestling team improved to No. 17 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll following a dual-less weekend, as four Scarlet Knights remained ranked by Intermat, FloWrestling, The Open Mat, Amateur Wrestling News (AWN), or WIN Magazine this week.
In addition to the coaches poll, the Scarlet Knights are ranked No. 17 in the WIN Magazine Tournament Power Indez (TPI) and No. 24 in the Intermat Tournament Rankings.
Rutgers (3-0) faces three ranked tests this weekend at the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals, where the Scarlet Knights will wrestle No. 13 North Carolina (0-0), No. 22 Oklahoma (0-0), and No. 25 Northern Iowa (0-0).
Individualy, there are projected to be eight Intermat ranked matchups across the three duals.
No. 19 redshirt freshman Anthony Giraldo (Guttenberg, N.J.) will wrestle No. 1 Cody Brewer (Oklahoma) and No. 13 Joey Ward (North Carolina) at 133 pounds, No. 8 redshirt sophomore Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) takes on No. 5 Evan Henderson (North Carolina) at 141 pounds, No. 9 redshirt senior Anthony Perrotti (Roseland, N.J.) faces No. 3 Ethan Ramos (North Carolina), No. 4 Cooper Moore (Northern Iowa), and No. 11 Clark Glass (Oklahoma) at 165 pounds, and No. 8 redshirt senior Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) grapples with No. 4 Blaize Cabell (Northern Iowa) and No. 9 Ross Larson (Oklahoma).
Wrestling begins at 11:15 a.m. against Oklahoma and continues with North Carolina at 1:15 p.m. and Northern Iowa at 3:15 p.m.
