Rutgers Game Notes
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After playing three of its last four games away from home, Rutgers (3-3) welcomes Wake Forest (4-2) to the RAC on Monday (Nov. 30) for a 7 p.m. tip-off in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
The Scarlet Knights will be working to snap a two-game skid. RU is undefeated at home this season. It's "Swap for an R Shirt" night, as fans who bring another university's t-shirt, can swap it for a Rutgers shirt. Drums of Thunder, a popular drum performance ensemble of 4th and 5th grade percussionists from the Hillside Elementary School in Montclair, NJ, will perform at halftime.
The game versus the Demons Deacons will be televised live nationally in high definition on ESPNU with Bob Picozzi calling the action and Craig Robinson providing the commentary. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York and WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Joe Boylan will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the game.
Monday evening's game will mark the first meeting between Rutgers and Wake Forest on the collegiate hardwood. RU is 1-0 all-time in the Big Ten- ACC Challenge, after a 69-64 win at Clemson last season.
Junior forward Deshawn Freeman shot 4-of-5 to score 13 points and sophomore forward D.J. Foreman was 4-of-8 from the field to post 11 points in a 76-58 loss to Clemson in the consolation game of the Men Who Speak Up Main Event Heavyweight Bracket at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday night. The Tigers shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) and out-rebounded Rutgers 36-25 to earn the victory. The Scarlet Knights made 46.8 percent (22-of-47) of their field goal attempts, but shot just 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from behind the arc.
The Scarlet Knights have four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Freeman with 14.5 points-per-game on 59.3 percent shooting. In its first six contests, Rutgers has had four different players pace the team in scoring, with Freeman and sophomore guard Mike Williams both accomplishing the feat on two occasions. RU has 162-87 advantage in bench points.
Wake Forest, under the leadership of second-year head coach Danny Manning, defeated UCLA 80-77 on Wednesday in the Maui Invitational, its second win in three days in Hawaii after defeating No. 13/14 Indiana 82-78 on Monday. The Demon Deacons boast five players averaging double figures, including senior forward Devin Thomas with 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds-pergame.
Wake Forest leads the nation in free throw attempts (187) and are fourth in free throws
made (129).
