PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Three Rutgers women's soccer players were named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com 2015 Women's DI Best XI teams. Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J.) was placed on the first team, senior defender Brianne Reed (Tinton Falls, N.J.) earned second team honors, and senior defender Erica Skroski (Galloway, N.J.) collected third team laurels.
The three standout Scarlet Knights were critical to Rutgers' success in 2015. RU (19-4-3) advanced to the first College Cup in program history this season with defense serving as the backbone of the team.
The Scarlet Knights finished the regular season with the best goals-against average (0.38), shutout percentage (.731) and shutout total (19) in the nation, led by the All-American trio of Murphy, Reed, and Skroski.
Murphy, the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Second Team All-American, played every minute of every match for the Scarlet Knights and helped reset the single-season shutout record and GAA record at RU.
Skroski was named Big Ten Defender of the Year and joined Murphy on the NSCAA All-America Second Team. She had a career season with seven points (2g, 3a) and played the full time in 24 of 26 matches.
Reed was a First Team All-Big Ten defender each of the last two seasons and an NSCAA Third Team All-American in 2014. The senior center back won the 2015 Senior CLASS Award and started all 26 matches.
