PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (3-5) plays its final of three consecutive home games when it welcomes Central Connecticut State (0-7) to the RAC on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. tip-off. $2.00 dollar tickets are available for the contest, which will also offer dollar hot dogs and post-game foul shots for kids 12 and under. The Scarlet Knights will be working to snap a four game skid, while the Blue Devils will be seeking their initial victory of the 2015-16 campaign.
Tuesday evening's game will be televised live on BTN, with Josh Lewin calling the action and Bob Wenzel providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York & WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick, as well as on Sirius 145 and XM 195. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Joe Boylan will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the game.
Tuesday evening's game marks the first meeting on the collegiate hardwood between Rutgers and CCSU. The Scarlet Knights are 37-4 all-time against current members of the Northeast Conference.
Freshman guard Corey Sanders shot 5-of-9 to score 14 points with six assists and four steals, but Rutgers dropped an 84-55 decision to Seton Hall Saturday afternoon at the RAC in the annual Garden State Hardwood Classic. The Scarlet Knights made 33.3 percent (20-of-60) of their field goal attempts and were out-rebounded 53-32 in the defeat. Sophomore guard Mike Williams added a team-high 16 points and sophomore forward D.J. Foreman grabbed a team-best nine rebounds for Rutgers, which was hampered by injuries. With starting forward Deshawn Freeman and center Shaquille Doorson sidelined, RU was out-scored 34-12 in bench points and 44-20 in the paint.
Sanders leads Big Ten freshmen in scoring (12.6) and steals (1.57), while placing second in assists (3.71). Fellow rookie guard Justin Goode leads league freshmen with at least 10 attempts in free throw shooting (.909).
CCSU, under the leadership of 20th-year head coach Howie Dickenman, has seven newcomers in the lineup that have played 52 percent of the team's total minutes and accounted for 48 percent of its scoring. The Blue Devils dropped an 86-65 decision at Fordham on Saturday. CCSU was limited to 38.3 percent shooting and did not have a player register double figures. Junior guard Khalen Cumberland averages a team-best 14.4 points-per-game. The Blue Devils have experimented with five different starting lineups this season and nine different players have started at least one game.
