TIP OFF
• The 2014 WNIT Champions have won six in-a-row for its longest win streak since opening the season with six consecutive victories following its 57-50 victory over Michigan. The victory also improved the Scarlet Knights to 10-1 on the road this season.
• RU's victory over Nebraska last Thursday made head coach C. Vivian Stringer the all-time leader in B1G women's basketball victory. Stringer currently has 178 career Big Ten wins, which include 169 victories at Iowa from 1983-95 and nine at Rutgers.
• On Sunday at Michigan, the Scarlet Knights were led by senior Betnijah Laney with her 16th double-double, surpassing her double-double mark from last season. She had 17 points and 10 rebounds. She has posted both double digit points and rebounds in the last four contests and in five of the last six games.
• In addition to her double-double, Laney dished the ball out a career-tying seven times.
• RU is currently 3-4 against the Top 25 which includes a win over No. 19/18 Nebraska last week along with victories over then-No. 25 Arkansas and then-No. 21 Minnesota earlier this season.
ABOUT MARYLAND
The Terps enter Tuesday night's contest sporting a 21-2 overall record and are still perfect in Big Ten play at 12-0, which includes a 59-47 victory over No. 19/18 Nebraska on Sunday.
Maryland's two losses on the season came in back-to-back losses with Washington State (70-64) and at Notre Dame (92-72) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Since their loss to the Fightin' Irish, the Terps have won 15 straight.
Last week, Maryland ranked fifth in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches Polls.
Additionally, the Terps are perfect 12-0 at home at the XFINITY Center.
Four Terps are averaging double figures led by S. Walker-Kimbrough at 13.9 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds per game. Second on the stat sheet is Laurin Mincy at 13.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while Lexie Brown in averaging 12.9 points per outing. Brionna Jones rounds out the double figure scorers at 12.3 points per game along with a team-leading 8.9 rebounds per contest.
Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 14th season at Maryland and 17th season overall. Since arriving in College Park she has led the Terps to the 2006 National Championship, as well as last season's Final Four.
LAST TIME VS. MARYLAND
The Rutgers women's basketball team overcame an 18-point first half deficit to tie the game up with the Big Ten leading Terps with 17 minutes remaining, but ended the night dropping a 71-59 decision to then-No. 8 Maryland on Jan 15.
Kahleah Copper led the Scarlet Knights for the seventh time this season with 16 points. Rachel Hollivay followed with 14 points from off the bench, while
Betnijah Laney added 12 points in the loss. Briyona Canty (Willingboro, N.J.), returning from a bone bruise which has kept her sidelined the last four contests, nearly joined the double-digit scorers with eight points, six of which came in the second half alone.
Maryland was led by Laurin Mincy with a game-high 24 points as she shot 7-of-14 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Lexie Brown and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough each registered 13 points in the victory and Brionna Jones capped off the double-figure scorers with a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
The Terps jumped to a 10-0 lead just two minutes into the contest and held the Scarlet Knights scoreless for nearly a five-minute span for its largest lead of the night, 25-7, at the 13:03 mark. A 5-0 run midway through the half would help Rutgers pull within nine, 29-20, however, Maryland would go on to lead by as many as 13 points.
Down 37-24 with 5:17 to go until the intermission, Rutgers found a scoring burst going on a 10-1 spurt to pull within four, 38-34, with 1:19 to go in the half. Tyler Scaife put up a jumper to beat the buzzer, cutting RU's deficit to 40-36 entering halftime.
At the start of the second half, the Scarlet Knights quickly tied up the game as Canty nailed a jumper to tie the score at 40-40 with 18:12 remaining, but the Terps would not hand over the lead. A Hollivay layup saw the Scarlet Knights trail just 50-48 with under 12 minutes to go, however Maryland proceeded to outscore RU, 10-2, for a double-digit edge that it would maintain the rest of the way.
The Terps were able to lead by as many as 14 in the second half, despite RU holding Maryland to under 36 percent shooting from the floor in the second half, a season-low
