PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's soccer head coach Dan Donigan was one of 10 inductees into the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey (SCANJ) Hall of Fame on Sunday.
During his career, which includes five seasons at Rutgers, Donigan has coached seven NSCAA All-Americans, 39 NSCAA All-Region selections, 76 all-conference honorees and 11 conference players of the year. His student-athletes have also been recognized for outstanding success in the classroom, which have included National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and CoSIDA Academic All-American honorees.
While "On The Banks," Donigan has helped transition the Scarlet Knights into the Big Ten Conference and guided Rutgers to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2011. Prior to Rutgers, Donigan led St. Louis to seven NCAA appearances and was a three-time conference and two-time NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year.
Beginning his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Connecticut, in 1994, he spent three seasons with the Huskies before joining the Saint Louis staff as an assistant from 1997-2000.
One of the most heralded collegiate soccer players at Connecticut from 1985-88, Donigan was the recipient Adidas Adi Dassler Award as the nation's "Most Outstanding Senior Soccer Player", a two-time finalist for Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year, a three-time All-American and named BIG EAST Player of the Decade. Ending his career with 35 goals and 40 assists, Donigan is listed sixth all-time in the Huskies' record book in scoring.
A native of Hamilton, New Jersey, Donigan attended Steinert High School where he scored 34 goals in his senior year, leading Steinert to the Group III State Championship. In 1999, he was named by the Star-Ledger as one of the top 10 New Jersey high school soccer players of the 1980s.
