STORRS, Conn.- The Rutgers women's lacrosse team made it a one-score game entering halftime, but UConn pulled away in the second half on its way to an 18-7 win Saturday afternoon at the Sherman Sports Complex.
Redshirt senior midfielder Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) recorded a hat trick before halftime to lead Rutgers (1-5) in scoring.Senior attack Melissa Arthur (Marlton, N.J.) assisted on a career-high four goals in the opening stanza and scored a goal in a five-point to bump her point total to 13 on the season. Her 11 assists through six games is good for third in the Big Ten.
Sbrilli pulled into a tie for second in goals with sophomore Amanda Turturro (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and junior Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley, Pa.) with nine overall. Adding scores Saturday against the Huskies were Turturro, junior Kim Kolodny (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and senior Jenny Vlahos (Manhasset, N.Y.).
The Scarlet Knights return to High Point Solutions Stadium on Wednesday, March 11, to play Temple at 6 p.m.
Game Notes
- Kolodny has scored in all six of RU's games and leads RU with 13 goals this season. It was her first time this year not scoring at least twice in a game.
- Arthur led Rutgers lead with four assists, setting a new career-high in helpers and points (five). Arthur has posted at least two helpers in fourof the last fivegames.
- Freshman Sydney Quinn (Millstone, N.J.) made her collegiate debut against the Huskies.
- Vlahos led RU lead with three draw controls and raised her career total to 94. She is six shy of becoming the fifth player in program history with more than 100 draw control wins.
- Sbrilli needs two more points to become the 19th player in program history to join the 100-point club. She has 85 goals and 13 assists in her career.
- Junior defender Addington Elliott (Rumson, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights with two ground balls.
