UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (April 19, 2015) --
Freshman Jules Heningburg recorded a hat trick and junior Scott Bieda had two goals and two assists, but Rutgers was unable to capture a Big Ten victory on the road at Penn State. RU got out to a 3-1 lead, but was unable to rebound from a Penn State charge, falling 11-6 in front of 1,510 fans and a national television audience. Kris Alleyne made a season-high 13 saves, while Joe Nardella was 12-of-20 at the faceoff "X" with a team-high seven ground balls.

"We came out strong today, as it is very convenient to be ready to play on game day," head coach Brian Brecht said. "We need to be ready and committed to prepare every day during the week leading up to game day."

The Scarlet Knights started strong on the road, opening up a 2-0 lead. The game got off to a good start, as Joe Nardella won the opening possession, and Rutgers made it count as Bieda cashed in on the offensive end. Then it was Brian Goss adding to the ledger, firing the ball in from outside the left post for a two-goal advantage. PSU got back within one, but then the freshman Heningburg tallied to give Rutgers a 3-1 lead.

The Nittany Lions responded with three goals in 1:46 to take their first lead of the day at 4-3. An extra-man goal gave PSU the tying score, and then they capitalized on another extra-man opportunity to go ahead 5-3 late in the first quarter.

Penn State stretched their lead to 6-3, but the RU extra-man unit took advantage for a goal. Heningburg potted his second goal of the game, with the freshman scoring at 6:44 left in the second quarter.

The Scarlet Knights got the second half off to a good start, as Bieda scored his second goal of the day to cut the PSU lead to 6-5. The Nittany Lions again had an answer, scoring just 46 seconds later to regain a two-goal advantage.

Alleyne made a series of saves in a third quarter flurry, including two consecutive stops from directly in front of the cage. However, PSU would increase their lead to 9-5 before Heningburg completed the hat trick. Rutgers was stymied the rest of the way, falling 11-6.
