ROSEMONT, ILL. (April 30, 2015) -- Senior captain Lindsay Balsamo (Wall, N.J.) of the Rutgers women's tennis has earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, the league announced Thursday.
"Lindsay had a great senior year," said head coach Ben Bucca. "She provided strong leadership to the squad. She had a vision for what she wanted the team to be like and was willing to stand for that. I give her a lot of credit for being a great team captain."
The athletes chosen for the Big Ten Conference Sportsmanship Award have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior, in addition to demonstrating good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Balsamo picked up six victories in single action this season, including a pair of wins in conference play. The Wall, N.J. native registered a 7-6, 6-3 win at the No. 4 singles spot in RU's match against Iowa, along with a decisive result of 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles spot against her Michigan State opponent.
