Men's X/C Finishes Second at Fordham Fiasco

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's cross country team finished second at the Fordham Fiasco on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Scarlet Knights completed the event with a team time of 2:16.06.
"It was a good start to the season for our team," head coach Mike Mulqueen said. "We ran well as a team with only one minute separating our top-seven runners. We ran much faster today than in this same race last year."
In his first collegiate race, freshman Conor Murphy (Millstone, N.J.) led RU with a fifth-place finish of 26:44.32. Classmate Dominick Munson (Erial, N.J.) (27:06.96) finished seventh overall in the field, while junior Nicholas Price (Old Bridge, N.J.) (eighth 27:21.54) and sophomores Trent Brinkofski (Somerset, N.J.) (ninth, 27:25.19) and Luke Wiley (Williamstown, N.J.) (10th, 27.28.84) all placed within the top-10.
Sophomore Alexander Livernois (Scotch Plains, N.J.) completed the race in 13th place with a time of 27:39.45, senior Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.) crossed the finish line in 14th (27:45.30) and freshman Kian Jackson (Plainsboro, N.J.) placed 17th (28:49.91).
Host Fordham won the team title with a 2:12.59 finish, while NJIT completed the race with a 2:28.01 time for third place.
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Scarlet Knights compete in the Rider Invitational at Rosedale Park in Pennington, N.J.
