PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Hosting a conference game for the first time this season, Rutgers field hockey came up short in a 5-1 loss to No.14 Northwestern. Nicole Imbriaco scored the lone goal for the Scarlet Knights, who fell to 5-3 on the season.

"This wasn't the result we wanted out there today," head coach Meredith Civico said. "We will regroup and make the necessary adjustments before our game Sunday against Michigan."

Northwestern grabbed the lead with a quick flurry just under seven minutes into the game. The Wildcats put home a rebound for the first goal, then scored again shortly after the restart for an early 2-0 lead.

Northwestern added another tally before the half, then scored again early in the second half for a 4-0 advantage.

Rutgers scored its only goal on a well-executed sequence 15 minutes into the second half. Senior captain Ali Stever sent the ball in from the outside of the circle, and Imbriaco was positioned perfectly to deflect the ball past the goalkeeper.

Northwestern added a fifth goal late in the game, making the final 5-1.

Shevaun Hayes tied her career-high by making 13 saves between the pipes. Imbriaco's goal gave her 10 goals on the season, now doubling her previous career high.

The Scarlet Knights will be back home on Sunday at noon, when they host No. 18 Michigan. The game will be live streamed on BTN Plus, with Lou Brogno and Jenn Staab on the call.
