REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Women's golf is tied for third with a 625 (324-301) total after the first two rounds of the 10-team Lady Blue Hen Invitational, played Saturday in challenging conditions at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Redshirt sophomore Ashleigh Greenham paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, carding a 153 (80-73) to enter Sunday's final round tied for third in the 60-player field.
"Conditions were very difficult today, with the course taking on a lot of rain overnight and with strong winds throughout the morning and afternoon," said head coach Kari Williams. "I was impressed by how everyone continued to grind after a challenging first round. That translated into improved scoring in our second 18. We are looking forward to tomorrow's round and the opportunity to better our position on the leaderboard."
Greenham had a tournament-best 25 pars on Saturday, while also registering three birdies.
"I was glad I was able to remain patient after a tough opening round," said Greenham. "The focus was on playing par golf and that mindset has put me in good position for the final round. As a team, we are proud of our play in the second round and we are excited to continue competing tomorrow."
Ana Maria Cortes, competing individually, also had a strong day on the links. The freshman had a team-best four birdies with 18 pars and is tied for sixth with a 155 (76-79) scorecard.
"Although the weather was not ideal, I was happy with how I competed today," said Cortes. "My confidence off the tee carried over into other aspects of my game, and that led to two solid rounds for me."
RU's second round score of 301 was the second-lowest round of the day on the par 71, 6,003-yard course.
Junior captain Emily Mills and sophomore Astrid Aneman are also among the top 15 competitors, both tied for 14th with 157 totals. Mills (84-73) was even on par fives and had 23 pars, while Aneman (77-80) tallied 21 pars.
Freshman Carrie-Ann Lee and junior Tatum Jackson round out the Rutgers scorecard. Lee is tied for 23rd with a 160 (83-77) and Jackson is tied for 29th with a 162 (84-78).
Defending champion Harvard leads the field with a 613 (314-299), 10 strokes ahead of second place Penn (312-311). The Scarlet Knights are tied with Delaware and have out-paced Towson, Seton Hall, Dartmouth, High Point, Delaware State and La Salle.
The Crimson's Anna Zhou is atop the leaderboard with a 147 (75-72), four strokes ahead of teammate Anne Cheng.
