PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The Rutgers women's basketball team hosted its annual media day on Thursday at the RAC to talk about the upcoming 2016-17 campaign. The Scarlet Knights return eight letterwinners from last year's roster in addition to eight newcomers joining the team.
The schedule gets underway in two weeks with RU hosting Chattanooga on Nov. 11. The Lady Mocs will represent one of 20 teams that reached either the NCAA or WNIT Tournaments that the Scarlet Knights will face this season. Additionally, three opponents are ranked in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll released on Thursday, including #5 Maryland, #6 Ohio State and #22 Michigan State, while seven other upcoming foes are receiving votes.
Driven, versatile, positive are just a few words the Rutgers women's basketball team use to describe their personalities. Get to know the Scarlet Knights and what each of their attributes bring to the team.
| Alex Alfano | Driven "I am always driven to reach the goal our team sets. I hope my work ethic of being driven in practice especially will encourage my teammates around me to reach that goal too." |
| Kandiss Barber | Determination "With my determination I would always strive for everyone to do their best and to continue no matter what." |
| Stasha Carey | Unique "I bring something different that nobody else does every day. You never know what you are going to get with me. It is good because I bring a positive energy and it keeps them wondering what I am going to next just like in the game of basketball." |
| Ciani Cryor | Encouraging "I can encourage my teammates to do better. If they aren't doing something right, I can encourage them to do it better. I am there if they need that extra push and to pick them up." |
| Kathleen Fitzpatrick | Positive "In times in practice when things look like they are going the wrong way, if I can keep talking to keep the energy up and helping things stay on the positive side, hopefully we can transition any negativity to a positive atmosphere." |
| Victoria Harris | Blunt "I'm bluntly honest. No matter if the game is intense or not, no matter what is going on in the game my teammates know that I'll tell them the truth." |
| Kate Hill | Welcoming "I am very easy to get along with. If anyone on the team felt that they need to come to me about something, it would be easy for them because we get along well. Also, with the coaches I am open to take new information in and I'm just always trying to learn." |
| Aliyah Jeune | Confident "If I am confident and know what I have to bring and to know what I have to contribute to the team to make us better then we will be successful." |
| Ashli Jeune | Competitive "I'm very competitive. I'm always challenging myself and others to be the best they can be." |
| Desiree Keeling | Lovable "I can get along with everybody. I can talk to everyone and everyone feels comfortable around me. I think that is what it takes to be a good teammate." |
| Shrita Parker | Funny "I make people laugh on the team. When people are having a bad day, I am the one that can put a smile on their faces." |
| Jazlynd Rollins | Introspective "I am always thinking of ways that I can make myself better and make them better to get better as a unit." |
| Khadaizha Sanders | Motivator "I am the teammate that always tries to pick my team up when maybe they didn't do something right in a drill, or they had a bad play. Especially for the newcomers, if they are messing up on a play or something not clicking, I tell them 'you got it, keep trying, next time you'll get it'. I constantly try to encourage my team and motivate them to keep working hard." |
| Tyler Scaife | Hard Working "Every day I work hard. We all work hard and spend extra time in the gym. I am trying to get them better and get myself better too to help the team. I am working for them and like to be a motivator." |
| Jordan Wallace | Entertaining "When we need to be brought up or if our energy is not where it needs to be, I feel I can bring that energy and I can make everybody laugh when they need to." |
| DaChe Williams | Versatile "I am able to do multiple things and fit in with the team. We all have different personalities so I get along with everyone. I am kind of the point for everything." |
