PISCATAWAY, N.J. - No. 24 Rutgers women's soccer played Indiana to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. Senior captains Madison Tiernan (10') and Tori Prager (13') scored early to put the Scarlet Knights (9-2-3, 4-1-2) ahead, 2-0, but the Hoosiers (5-7-3, 2-3-2) battled back before the end of the first half.
Senior goalkeeper Alana Jimenez made four saves in net for the Scarlet Knights. Indiana's Sarah L'Hommedieu posted eight saves.
Indiana answered two quick RU goals with two scores of their own before the end of the half. Marissa Borschke scored her first goal of the year in the 32nd minute to make it 2-1, and was followed by a rebound goal from Syndey Kilgore in the 41st.
The Scarlet Knights pounced on the Hoosiers early in Bloomington on goals from Tiernan and Prager. The captain duo scored three minutes apart as Rutgers took a 2-0 advantage 13 minutes into the match.
Rutgers' next two matches will be nationally televised on Big Ten Network. The Scarlet Knights will face No. 13 Penn State on Thursday, Oct. 13 in University Park, Pennsylvania, and travel to Ohio State on Sunday, Oct. 16 in Columbus, Ohio.
GAME NOTES
• Rutgers is 2-0-1 all-time against Indiana after Sunday's draw.
• The Scarlet Knights played in their sixth overtime match this season and fourth in the last five games. RU is 1-2-3 in OT in 2016. The team last played six OT matches in 2013, going 1-0-5.
• Rutgers, which entered the weekend leading the Big Ten in shots on goal, has posted at least eight shots on goal in 11 of 14 matches.
• With 19 points (7g, 5a) this season and 57 (21g, 15a) in her career, Tiernan is now ninth on Rutgers' all-time list. Her 19 points this year is a new single-season high.
• Tiernan is now 10th on Rutgers' all-time goal list with 21 in her career.
• Prager scored for the second time in her career.
• Colby Ciarrocca posted her third assist of the season. She is third on the team with 13 points.
• Tiernan and Ciarrocca have recorded points in four-straight games.
