PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Men's cross country junior Trent Brinkofski was named a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient, announced Tuesday by the conference.
"He's been a really steady performer for us as well as an avid participant in service around the Rutgers' community," said head coach Mike Mulqueen. "It's well deserved. He's been very consistent for us and has become a great leader for tour team."
The Big Ten Sportsmanship Award is presented to an individual who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
A Big Ten and USTFCCCA All-Academic selection last year, Brinkfoski is a two-time Big Ten Athlete of the Week award winner. The Somerset, New Jersey, native earned his most recent athlete of the week accolade after he finished fifth at the Metropolitan Championships on October 7 in the Bronx.
Over the summer, Brinkofksi and other RU student-athletes helped clean and maintain public areas of New Brunswick, New Jersey. A member of the Rutgers Leadership Academy, Brinkofski has participated in a number of community service endeavors during his time "On the Banks".
