Box Score Nov. 13, 2016 Final Stats
COLLEGE PARK, MD. (Nov. 13, 2016) - In the second matchup of the season between the programs, the Rutgers women's volleyball fell to Maryland in a point-for-point battle on Sunday afternoon at the XFINITY Pavilion.
The Terrapins (11-17, 3-13 Big Ten) claimed its second win over the Scarlet Knights (4-25, 0-16 Big Ten) this season by set scores of 25-16, 27-25, and 25-21.
Despite the loss, Rutgers registered its best offensive performance against a conference foe this season. Senior right side Lauren Cloyd led the outing with 12 kills, along with two blocks. Freshman middle blocker Jasmine Stackhouse followed with eight kills, along with five blocks. Freshman setter Megan Sharkey finished three shy of her career-high in assists with 23.
Liz Twilley paced Maryland with 12 kills followed by Gia Milana with 11 kills of her own. Ashlyn McGregor added in four blocks in the win.
The first set began as a back-and-fourth battle as Maryland held onto an edge before breaking away with the victory. Rutgers recovered its early momentum to switch the advantage to its favor in the second set.
The Scarlet Knights held a 17-14 lead late in the frame before the Terps tied it up, 18-18, for the first time since the first serves of the stanza. The teams entered a point-for-point rally as the score would be tied on seven more occasions before UMD tacked on the final two points for the win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
RU and UMD continued to trade points in the third frame. After the score began knotted, 4-4, the Scarlet Knights established a slight advantage on the board for the following serves. However, the Terps tied it up at 9-9, sending the game into a rally with either squads unable to create a commanding lead
With the score at 13-13, Maryland found a 5-1 burst to create an 18-14, the largest of the set. Rutgers responded with four consecutive points, including a block and kill from Cloyd, to set the score at 18-18. However, the Terps were able to maintain its edge to hold off the Scarlet Knights comeback.

Rutgers hits the road for a midweek match at Iowa on Wednesday, Nov. 16 before returning home to host Indiana on Sunday, Nov. 20.
KNIGHT NOTES
- Lauren Cloyd led Rutgers in kills for the fourth consecutive match, posting her most kills (12) in a Big Ten match this season.
- Jasmine Stackhouse registered five blocks. Stackhouse has posted five or more blocks in eight contests this season.
- Megan Sharkey posted 23 assists, which was three shy of her career best. The mark was the highest individual total for a Big Ten match this year.
