
Men's Golf Downs Michigan at B1G Match Play Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. - The Rutgers men's golf team enjoyed success during its first outing of the spring, downing Michigan in the opening round of the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Palm Coast, Fla. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Wolverines, 3.5-2.5, as Matt Holuta (Indiana, Pa.), Louis Bodine (Flemington, N.J.) and Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) all delivered victories for RU.
Rutgers finished the first day 1-1 in match play, also falling to Michigan State, 4.5-1.5. The Scarlet Knights will face Indiana in round three on Saturday. Depending on the result, RU will complete match play against a team from the west region in the fourth round.
Bodine had the most convincing result for Rutgers, delivering a 3&1 win over Michigan's Brett McIntosh. Chang won 2&1 against Bryce Evon, while Holuta contributed a 2-Up result against Tom Swanson. Toks Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria) produced a draw with the Wolverines' Nick Carlson to contribute to the opening-round victory.
Against the Spartans, Chang had a 3&2 victory over Sam Weatherhead, while Pedro produced his second tie of the day, this time against MSU's Charlie Netzel. Jack Panagos (Hillsborough, N.J.), Chase Wheatley (Corona del Mar, Calif.) and Ryan Rose (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) also competed for the Scarlet Knights during Friday action.
Rutgers returns to the course against the Hoosiers on Saturday, with first tee set for 7:45 a.m. Indiana went 1-1 during the first day of match play, defeating Penn State, 3.5-2.5, before losing to Minnesota, 4-2.
