Gymnastics Sending Three to NCAA Regionals

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers gymnastics will have three representatives at the Ann Arbor Regional set for Saturday at 6 p.m. inside the Crisler Center. Freshman Michelle Amoresano (Whippany, N.J.) and senior Nicolette Wilson (Toms River, N.J.) will both vault, while sophomore Libby Groden (Abbottstown, Pa.) will compete all-around.
The trio will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championships scheduled for April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. The top two all-arounders not from a qualifying team and all event winners will be invited to participate.
| VIDEO STREAM | STATISTICS Amoresano competed 10 times on vault as a rookie, never scoring lower than a 9.725 to earn a 9.785 regional qualifying score (RQS). She reached her season-high mark at home on Feb. 20 at 9.825. In addition, the freshman put up a 9.750 at the Big Ten Championships last week. Amoresano will compete right away in the first rotation.
Groden is heading to NCAA Regionals as an individual for the second time in as many seasons. She will follow Michigan during the meet with the following rotation: balance beam, bye, floor exercise, vault, bye and finishing on uneven bars. As a sophomore, Groden increased her RQS to 38.990 with four meets scoring at least 39.000. The all-arounder attained her career high in consecutive meets in February at 39.050. Groden had a personal-high RQS on floor exercise at 9.785 with a season best of 9.800 four times. She also had season bests of 9.850 on vault, 9.850 on balance beam and 9.825 on vault, as the gymnast is coming off a 38.950 all-around score last week at the Big Ten Championships. In 2015, Groden recorded a 38.850 at the Morgantown Regional with a high of 9.800 on balance beam.
Wilson will appear at NCAA Regionals for the second time, but it will be her first trip as an individual. The senior led the Scarlet Knights with a 9.815 RQS on vault, seeing action in all 12 meets. She reached 9.800 eight times throughout the season, including a career-high 9.990 to help Rutgers win its first Big Ten meet at Maryland. Wilson totaled a 9.750 at the Big Ten Championships and put up a 9.725 in the 2014 Athens Regional as part of the team appearance. She will compete during the fifth rotation.
It is the second consecutive season that the Scarlet Knights are sending three gymnasts to NCAA Regionals.
