PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers point guard Corey Sanders was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the league's media this evening on BTN.
Sanders ranks ninth overall and first among freshmen in the Big Ten in scoring (16.2), while pacing all conference players in steals (1.8). He is also seventh overall and first among freshmen in assists (4.3). In Big Ten only games, Sanders is fourth overall in scoring (18.0), fifth in assists (4.9) and second in steals (2.0).
Sanders is one of just two freshmen in the nation to average 16.2+ points, 4.3+ assists and 1.8+ steals per game, along with LSU's Ben Simmons.
The Lakeland, Fla. native has led the team in scoring 12 times and has 21 double-digit scoring games. He has scored at least 20 points on eight occasions and has dished-out five or more assists in 11 contests.
Sanders was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice this season.
In Rutgers' three overtime game against Illinois on Feb. 3, Sanders had a record breaking performance with 39 points, that including a game-tying three-pointer at the overtime buzzer that was the top play on SportsCenter's Top 10. The 39 points set the RU freshman scoring record and his 12 assists were the most for a RU player since Marquis Webb had 11 on Jan. 24, 2005 versus Syracuse. Sanders became the first NCAA player to have at least 39 points and 12 assists in a game since Ohio's D.J. Cooper in 2010.
Sanders joins Myles Mack, an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection by the league's media last season, as a Big Ten post-season honoree for the Scarlet Knights.
