Box Score Highlights

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - No. 18 Rutgers men's lacrosse stayed unbeaten in Big Ten play, earning a 13-6 win over Michigan (3-6, 0-2 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon in front of 2,144 fans at High Point Solutions Stadium. Jules Heningburg led the team with a career-high five goals and Scott Bieda had a six-point day with two goals and four assists.

With the win, Rutgers improved to (9-2, 2-0 Big Ten) on the season. The team stayed unbeaten at home this season (6-0).

Rutgers outshot Michigan 42-38 and forced 20 Wolverine turnovers. The Scarlet Knights dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the visitors 5-0 in the frame to secure the victory.

"I thought our guys did a great job finishing the game in the fourth quarter," head coach Brian Brecht said. "That attack unit has been working very well. The chemistry and the way they share the ball has been great. Scott Bieda and Adam Charalambides get a lot of the attention, but Jules Heningburg has been a big part of that unit and had a great game with five big ones for us today."

Defensively the team was stout. Michael Rexrode had a team-high five ground balls and had three caused turnovers, while Chris Groel had a team-high four caused turnovers and two ground balls. Kris Alleyne backstopped that unit, making 13 saves to earn his sixth win of the season.

"We had a lot of transition and a lot of breaks, "Brecht explained "That was mostly because of the laser focus and stellar play of Kris Alleyne in goal. He was sharp. For two weeks in a row, he's played the best lacrosse I've seen him play. His outlets and being able to run in transition was a big reason we broke it open in the fourth quarter."

The game was even in the early going, tied at 2-2 after one frame. RU got first period unassisted goals from Charalambides and Heningburg.

Early in the second quarter, RU scored twice to take over the lead for good. Midfielders Chad Toliver and Jeff George each scored to make the advantage 4-2. After another Heningburg goal, RU led 5-3 at halftime.

Heningburg started the scoring in the second half, but the visitors countered with two to cut the lead to 6-5. Scott Bieda then scored two crucial goals for the home squad, tallying twice in a 32 second span to give RU an 8-5 lead. A Wolverines tally in the final seconds of the third quarter brought the score to 8-6 after three frames.

The final quarter was controlled by the home team, as Rutgers scored all five goals in the frame. Along with two tallies from Heningburg, Mark Christiano, Christian Trasolini, and Ryan Hollingsworth scored goals in the final stanza to put the game away.

Next up for the Scarlet Knights will be their first road contest in a month. RU will travel to No. 5 Maryland for a 4 p.m. start next Saturday.
