Tennis Halted by Michigan State, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Despite wins in singles action from Senior Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) and sophomore Chloe Lee (Albuquerque, N.M.), Rutgers tennis fell to Michigan State, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing, Mich.
The Scarlet Knights (6-13, 0-9 B1G) managed to bring three singles matches into the third deciding round, while Li recorded a straight-set victory against Erin Faulkner in the No. 1 position. But the Spartans (10-9, 2-5 B1G) were able to close out matches down the stretch to secure the dual victory.
Li produced a convincing 6-3 decision in the first set against Faulkner, and edged out a close second set by a 7-6 margin for the victory. The win was Li's fourth in conference play, as the veteran has now won six of her last eight matches.
Lee picked up her second conference triumph this season, capturing the first set against MSU's Lexi Baylis, 6-2. Baylis fought back for a win in the second set, 3-6, but Lee kept Baylis in check with a 6-2 third-set victory for the singles win.
In doubles play, Michigan State added wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions for the point. Faulkner and Allie Baer downed Li and senior Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas), 7-5, while Baylis and Athena Trouillot won over senior Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) and junior Farris Cunningham (Houston, Texas), 6-2.
Rutgers closes out the regular season with two conference road matches, as the Scarlet Knights compete at Wisconsin on April 22 and Minnesota on April 24.
