Copper Named to USA Basketball's Select Team

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Former Rutgers women's basketball standout, Kahleah Copper, was among the 11 members named to the USA Basketball Women's Select Team, it was announced on Monday.
The USA Select Team, comprised of young USA National Team members and future USA National Team hopefuls, will train alongside the 2016 USA Women's National Team July 23-24 in Los Angeles before tipping-off the USA Basketball Showcase presented by Verizon in an exhibition game July 25 at the University of Southern California's Galen Center.
A Second Team All-Big Ten member as a senior during the 2015-16 campaign, Copper led Rutgers with 17.7 points per game, while adding in a team-leading 8.0 rebounds per game. The Philadelphia native opened her final season "On the Banks" being named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale and Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch Lists and was later added to the Dawn Staley Mid-Season Watch List. She scored in double figures in all but four games and performed 11 double-doubles.
Copper ended her career with 1,872 career points, finishing third on RU's all-time scoring leaders list behind Rutgers greats Sue Wicks and Cappie Pondexter.
In May of 2015, Copper was among the nation's top collegiate players to accept invitations to the USA Basketball Women's Pan American Games and World University Team trials.
The seventh overall pick of the 2016 WNBA Draft, Copper is in her first season with the Washington Mystics. She has appeared in 16 games, with a pair of starts, and is averaging 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in her rookie season.
