Men's Cross Country Releases 2016 Schedule

PISCATAWAY - Rutgers men's cross country released its schedule for the 2016 campaign, it was announced Tuesday. The fall slate features seven events, including the Big Ten, IC4A and Metropolitan championships.
The Scarlet Knights begin the season at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State, on Saturday, Sept. 10 in State College, Pennsylvania. RU concludes the month with the Rider Invitational on Friday, Sept. 16 in Lawrence Township, New Jersey.
Rutgers travels to Lehigh, Pennsylvania to compete in the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1 before its first championship event at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, Oct. 7 in the Bronx, New York. Rutgers finished third last season at the Met Championships, the best team result for the Scarlet Knights in the event in six seasons.
This year's Big Ten Championships will be hosted by Minnesota on Sunday, Oct. 30 in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. The Scarlet Knights then return to State College for the District II Championships on Friday, Nov. 11.
RU closes out the season with a trip to the IC4A Championships in the Bronx. Rutgers posted a second-place time of 2:12.16 at the championships, its best finish at the event in more than 15 years.
The program returns seven athletes from the 2015 roster, including All-East University Division selections Conor Murphy and Trent Brinkofski. Brinkofski was named Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Metropolitan Championships last year, where he had a seventh-place time of 26:54.7
