PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Big Ten Conference announced its 2016-17 women's golf preseason honorees on Wednesday, with junior Emily Mills, sophomore Astrid Aneman and transfer Ashleigh Greenham earning recognition. Mills and Aneman received the honor on the heels of being named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I All-America Scholars in July.
A returning team captain and two-time All-America Scholar, Mills carded a program record 67 (-5) in the opening round of the 2016 Big Ten Championship, en route to a 54-hole record total of 214. She placed tied for 12th at the Championship, which was one of six top-15 finishes in 2015-16. Mills led the program with a stroke 75.57 average as a sophomore and with a 78.27 average as a freshman.
Aneman had two top 25 finishes as a freshman last season, competing in eight tournaments and playing 23 rounds. She carded a 70 in the second round of the BYU at Entrada Classic.
Greenham arrives after competing at Arizona State University. She was a top-ranked junior out of Europe when she signed with the Sun Devils in the fall of 2014. Greenham registered a 78.0 scoring average at ASU in 2014-15.
The 2015-16 season was very productive for Rutgers, both competitively and academically under head coach Kari Williams. RU established many program records and completed its spring ranked 129 with a 307.61 scoring average. The Scarlet Knights' season culminated with team records for single-round (287) and 54-hole score (886) at the Big Ten Championship.
The records continued in the classroom and in the community. The team was honored at the second annual R Awards for having the highest team grade point average among all 24 programs. Women's golf was also one of four Rutgers programs to receive public recognition from the NCAA for their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, placing among the top 10 percent of its respective sport. The team also impressively completed over 350 hours of community service during the year.
The Scarlet Knights begin their season by hosting the Rutgers Invitational September 16-17. The event is the first of six tournaments on the fall schedule.
