SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Women's golf is tied for eighth with a 616 (305-311) total after the opening two rounds of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, played Tuesday in challenging conditions at Sahalee Country Club. Co-captain Emily Mills paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, carding a two-over 146 (73-73) to enter Wednesday's final round tied for seventh in the 63-player field.
Mills was minus one on par five holes, while registering seven birdies and 21 pars, on the par 72, 5,980-yard course.
Fellow senior Tatum Jackson joined Mills near the top of the leaderboard on the course consistently ranked among the top 100 in America by Golf Digest. Jackson, who counted 22 pars, is tied for 25th with a 153 (72-81) after going two-under on par five holes.
"We had strong play in the first round from our two seniors, Tatum and Emily," said head coach Kari Williams. "Emily was able to keep her momentum going in the second round through the rain. She's put herself in a good position to go out and compete tomorrow for a top finish."
Freshmen Harriet Allsebrook and Lori Char and redshirt junior Ashleigh Greenham complete the team scorecard. Allsebrook is tied for 38th with a 157 (79-78), Greenham is tied for 47th with a 160 (81-79) and Char is tied for 56th with a 166 (82-84).
Host Washington is in first place with a one-under 575 (289-286), 10 strokes ahead of Brigham Young and Colorado, which are tied for second in the 11-team event. BYU's Kendra Dalton is atop the individual leaderboard after shooting an eight-under 136 (70-66).
Rutgers is tied with UC Davis and ahead of Idaho and Colorado State. The Scarlet Knights, who have finished fifth or better in their previous three tournaments, are two strokes out of seventh place and four strokes out of sixth entering the final 18 holes.
