Nov 28 | Women's Volleyball
Sophomore captain will also be on the Big Ten All-Academic list this month
PARK RIDGE, Ill. (Nov. 28, 2017) – Sophomore Karysa Swackenberg represents Rutgers volleyball on the 2017 Big Ten postseason honors, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Swackenberg has been named a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient for distinguishing herself through sportsmanship and ethical behavior, in addition to demonstrating good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
"Karysa is the consummate teammate, always encouraging and supporting others," said head coach CJ Werneke. "She's constantly challenging herself and others to be the best they can be, and really does make others around her better. She is an ultra-competitive person, but still has the utmost respect for the game and opponents, and always wants to be out there playing with the best players and teams in the country."
Voted a team captain as a sophomore, Swackenberg went on to become one of just three Scarlet Knights this season to play in all 32 matches. As the primary libero, Swackenberg led the team in digs with 295 this fall, averaging 2.81 per set. She added 55 assists and 10 service aces while pacing her squad in the dig department in 19 matches.
The Brighton, Colorado native is planning to major in business at Rutgers, while serving as a volleyball representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She will be named to her first Big Ten All-Academic Team this month.
