Redshirt Senior Midfielder Erik Sa Named Rutgers' B1G Sportsmanship Honoree
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers freshmen Vincent Borden and Bryce Washington were named to the Big Ten Men's Soccer All-Freshman Team in a vote by the league's head coaches, it was announced on the eve of the start of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday.
Borden appeared in and started all 17 regular season contests in the midfield in 2017. A native of Ithaca, New York, Borden posted a goal in RU's 5-3 win at Oral Roberts on Sept. 1 and logged an assist in the Scarlet Knights' 4-1 victory over Lafayette on Oct. 18.
Washington has started all 17 contests to date as a member of the Scarlet Knight backline. The Atlanta, Georgia product helped Rutgers to shutouts over UMKC and Princeton and captured his first collegiate goal in a 4-1 victory over Lafayette on Oct. 18.

Redshirt senior midfielder Erik Sa was named Rutgers' Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree. The Big Ten Sportsmanship Award is presented to an individual who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Sa, who hails from Watchung, New Jersey, has registered three goals and an assist in his final season at Rutgers. He returned to the pitch from last year's injury to score a goal in the season opener against No. 2 and national runner-up Wake Forest and also added tallies against Canisius on Sept. 19 and Lafayette on Oct. 18. Sa also captured an assist against Big Ten regular season champions, Michigan, back on Oct. 6.
The Rutgers men's soccer team opens up Big Ten Tournament play on Saturday at noon. The Scarlet Knights take on eighth-seeded Northwestern in the play-in game at U-M Soccer Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
