WRAPPING UP NONCONFERENCE SCHEDULE FOR THE HOLIDAYS
The Rutgers women's basketball team, a squad who crept back into the polls receiving votes in the Associated Press Poll this week, closes out nonconference play with Princeton on Wednesday and Houston on Saturday.
The Scarlet Knights are fresh off a 101-35 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, with RU reaching the 100+ point mark for only the third time in the C. Vivian Stringer era. Rutgers cracked the 100-point mark for the first time since 2014 and the 66-point margin of victory was the largest since 1988.
No member of the Rutgers roster played more than 18 minutes with redshirt senior guard Tyler Scaife leading the way with 25 points in 18 minutes. Junior forward Caitlin Jenkins collected her third double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds. They were joined in double figures by redshirt sophomore guard Ciani Cryor's 15 points and senior guard Jazlynd Rollins' 10.
ABOUT PRINCETON
The Tigers are off to a 6-2 start on the 2017-18 season and have won three straight including a 60-46 win at Quinnipiac on Saturday.
Princeton's two losses came at the hands of current No. 20/19 Villanova, 62-59, on Nov. 29 and a 67-56 home loss against Georgia Tech on Nov. 19.
Both schools have squared off against Seton Hall this season. While Rutgers dominated the Pirates last Friday, 70-45, the Tigers' contest was closer with an 85-83 victory in the second game of the season.
Princeton fended off a 10-1 Pirate run with just over a minute remaining as the Tigers led 81-78 in the closing moments. Junior guard Gabrielle Rush sealed the victory with 16 seconds remaining with a pair of free throws.
The Tigers have a trio of double figure scorers led by Bella Alarie who is averaging a double-double. The sophomore guard/forward is pouring in 17.0 points per game to go along with hauling in 10.4 rebounds per contest. She has totaled five double-doubles on the year thus far.
Following Alarie on the stat sheet is senior forward Leslie Robinson at 10.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per outing while freshman guard Carlie Littlefield is adding in 10.0 points per game.
STRINGER MILESTONE NUMBERS TO REMEMBER
Rutgers head coach Stringer has compiled a 987-392 career record in 47 seasons and is 13 wins away from joining Stanford's Tara VanDerveer and former Tennessee head coach Pat Summit with 1,000 career victories in women's basketball.
