Tennis Falls to Fordham, 4-3

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Rutgers tennis fell to Fordham, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The decision came down to the final singles match, but Fordham's Destiny Grunin secured the dual for the Rams with her three-set win over senior Farris Cunningham.
The Scarlet Knights captured the doubles point as senior Ksenija Tihomirova and junior Chloe Lee edged Carina Ma and Estelle Wong, 6-1, in the No. 1 position. Junior Mingxiu Du and freshman Katherine Muzik also won in No. 2 doubles, 6-2.
Tihomirova was one of two Scarlet Knights to contribute singles victories with her convincing 6-4, 6-2 result over Wong. Muzik moved to 4-0 to start her collegiate career with a hard-fought 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 win in the No. 5 position against Gianna Isogna.
With the match tied, 3-3, Cunningham forced a deciding third set with her 7-5 win in set No. 2 over Grunin. Cunningham fought back from down 4-1 in the final stanza, but Grunin held on for a 6-3 win in the third set to clinch the dual for Fordham.
Rutgers returns to action on Feb. 15 when the Scarlet Knights travel to face Princeton.
