PALM COAST, Fla. - Rutgers men's golf collected a 4-2 decision over No. 2-seeded Michigan Saturday morning at the Big Ten Match Play Championships in Palm Coast, Florida.
Junior Matt Holuta, sophomore Matthew Mourin and freshmen Adam Gray and Tony Jiang all claimed individual wins to help RU secure its victory over the Wolverines.
The Scarlet Knights finished sixth overall after it fell to No. 4 Purdue, 4-1-1, in the fifth-place match. RU also collected a 4-2 win over No. 6-seeded Ohio State in the opening round on Friday.
"We had a chance to get wins in all four matches we played in and we we're able to convert two into wins against talented programs in Michigan and Ohio State," said head coach Rob Shutte. "I'm proud of the way we fought for points in every match. The guys competed with class and showed a ton of resolve."

The Scarlet Knights had four wins against Michigan, including Jiang's 2&1 decision over Ian Kim. Holuta contributed his second triumph of the weekend with his 3&1 victory against Bryce Evon, while Gray also added his second win of the championship with a 6&4 result against Taisei Negishi. Making his collegiate lineup debut this weekend, Mourin downed Reed Hrynewich, 4&2.
Rutgers opened match play by defeating No. 6-seeded Ohio State, 4-2, Friday in the first round. The Scarlet Knights collected four individual victories against Ohio State, including a 1UP decision from Gray. Jiang registered a 4&2 win over OSU's Will Grimmer, while Holuta and junior Toks Pedro collected 5&3 and 4&3 decisions, respectively.
"We were only one of three teams that played four matches this weekend, so fatigue probably caught up to us at the end," Shutte said. "All you can ask is to have a chance to win the last few holes and we did that in every match. There are a lot of positives to take from this weekend as we continue our spring season."
Rutgers returns to action from March 6-7 when the Scarlet Knights compete at the Colleton River Classic in Bluffton, South Carolina.
